What are LAMDA Exams?

The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art is a world leading drama school and exam provider. The exams Jo teaches are split into Communication Exams eg Public Speaking and Performance Exams eg Acting.

These exams encourage learners of all ages (so far their youngest student was 3 the oldest 86) to develop a love of literature, poetry & drama which inevitably improves communication skills and general confidence levels.

Exams are open to all and there is no requirement to begin at Entry Level. You may be looking to gain confidence in performance, wish to communicate more efficiently and effectively at work, college or socially – or perhaps simply looking to shake things up with a new challenge. Exams can be completed in any order, although it’s necessary to ensure you are entered at the correct level and scene selections choices, when teaching children, are age-appropriate.

LAMDA is Ofqual recognised and therefore is an actual ‘qualification’ and can be taken at four levels:

  • Entry Level

  • Level 1 – LAMDA Grades 1, 2 & 3

  • Level 2 – LAMDA Grades 4 & 5

  • Level 3 – LAMDA Grades 6, 7 & 8 (Bronze, Silver & Gold Medal Level)

There are also Introductory LAMDA Exams for young performers who are taking their very first steps in memorising, reciting and communicating.

For ease below are some examples of equivalent qualifications:

  • LAMDA Entry Level – Entry Level Functional Skills

  • LAMDA Level 1 – NVQ Level 1, BTEC Level 1

  • LAMDA Level 2 – GCSE, Higher Diploma

  • LAMDA Level 3 – AS & A Level, BTEC National

LAMDA Medal level exams carry UCAS Points which will benefit university applications. For example a Grade 8 result at Distinction level, carries 30 UCAS Points.

Employers will often look for Drama/LAMDA on a CV as it demonstrates excellent communication skills, team work, confidence & creativity.

LAMDA qualifications will help you to ‘market' yourself at interviews and will indicate your abilities to communicate, listen and interact at a professional level.

Of course there's no pressure to take any exams at all. You can simply chose to take part for a confidence boost and some fun!
